Intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) delivers radiation straight to a tumor during a lumpectomy surgery. This combination, breast-saving treatment is standard care for women (and men) with early-stage breast cancer. It can also shorten postoperative radiation treatments or eliminate future treatments altogether.

IORT is a combination of surgery and radiation therapy in one procedure, typically done for patients who are 50 and older, and who have small tumors. Learn More
Advanced Treatment Technology
IORT is a proven cancer treatment, involving precision and strength. A mobile linear accelerator delivers a high dose of electron-based radiation to the tumor site in 1-2 minutes during a lumpectomy.
Feel Like Yourself Again Sooner
This type of radiation therapy benefits patients with fewer treatments and side effects. Typically, a lumpectomy is accompanied by 6-7 weeks of daily radiation treatments after surgery. With IORT, you may only need 3 weeks of treatment – or even just one given on the day of surgery. It varies depending on the tumor type/size and your age.
- Helps kill cancer cells before they can spread
- Delivered in 1-2 minutes during surgery
- Less damage to healthy tissue
