Together with Commerce Bank, Avera offers patients and families a line of credit to help pay outstanding medical balances. Health Services Financing (HSF®) works just like a loan with monthly payments.

What is the minimum amount that can be financed?

The financially responsible person must finance $250 at a minimum for the initial transaction.

What are the extended payment plan terms?

The following spells out payment terms for you to reference.

If I have questions, whom do I contact?

Contact Avera Health at 888-370-6525 for general enrollment questions. Contact Commerce Bank at 855-893-1292 with questions regarding an established account.

Is there a penalty if I pay this off early?

No, there is no penalty for early payments.

What happens if I have additional balances that I want to finance in the future?

The new balance(s) can be added to the existing line of credit up to a total amount of $50,000.

What happens if I miss a payment?

If you’re the financially responsible person and you miss a payment, please contact Commerce Bank at 855-893-1292 to address overdue payments. Commerce Bank may assess a late fee.

I want to cancel my financing plan. How do I do that?

If you’re the financially responsible person, please contact Commerce Bank at 855-893-1292 to cancel an existing account. Any outstanding balance(s) will transfer to Avera Health or Avera Heart Hospital.

Do I make my payments directly to the provider or to Commerce Bank?

Please make payments directly to Commerce Bank.

What are my options for sending payment(s) to Commerce Bank?

You have several options:

  • Make a quick payment online or activate online banking through Commerce Bank.
  • Set up automatic recurring payments through Commerce Bank by enrolling in online banking.
  • Send a check to Commerce Bank, P.O. Box 801042, Kansas City, MO 64180-1042. This address will also be included on your periodic statements.
  • Make a payment in person at any Commerce Bank branch location.
  • Make a payment over the phone by calling Commerce Bank’s free 24-hour automated phone system at 855-893-1292. You will be prompted to select the appropriate option to make a payment from your desired checking or savings account, or an eligible Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Can I add multiple family members under one financing plan?

Yes. If you are the financially responsible person, you can set up one financing plan for multiple accounts.

Are elective services able to be financed?

Unfortunately, no. Elective services are not able to be financed at this time.

If I finance additional balances, does this affect my overall repayment terms?

Overall repayment terms do not change. Each time you finance additional balances, those lines of credit have their own unique repayment terms listed on the revised monthly billing statement for each balance financed. You will be asked to pay one monthly consolidated amount.

Why haven't I received my monthly statement

You will receive your statement based on the preference you select in your patient portal. Options include email, SMS or paper.

Why can't the same payment arrangement be applied to my entire account balance?

There may be additional charges pending with your insurance on the account(s). You are able to make a payment at this time. No payment plan can be set up until the entire balance has finalized with insurance.

Why am I getting a statement showing a balance, but I cannot set up a payment plan?

At this time, you are responsible for the entire balance not covered by insurance. You can settle the full amount or make a partial payment. A payment plan cannot be initiated until the insurance balance is taken care of.
