Tamera Larsen-Engelkes has been named Chief Nursing Officer at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls.

Avera was one of five sites worldwide of a clinical trial for a targeted three-drug combination to treat small cell lung cancer. Over half the patients showed clinical benefit.

Avera has received over $2.5 million in HRSA funding to support nursing and address workforce capacity through innovative solutions including telehealth and virtual nursing.

Thanks to an equipment donation to expand this program, Mitchell Tech students can train on the same equipment used at Avera for a seamless transition from school to work.

Avera Careflight Emergency Air Transport service has base locations in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen and Pierre and serves a five-state region.

Avera is one of four recipients nationwide to receive federal Rural Maternity and Obstetrics Management Strategies Program (RMOMS) funding to improve access to care in rural areas.

During September, which is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, Avera is launching a campaign centered around the theme, “Ask the Question.” This question can be a critical starting point to offer help when someone shows warning signs of suicide.
