Avera Hospitals Earn National Performance Leadership Awards for 2023

Avera Grassland CampusNumerous Avera facilities earned Performance Leadership Awards for quality, outcomes and patient perspectives for 2023 from the Chartis Center for Rural Health. Each is among the nation’s top quartile of performers – in the 75th percentile or above – in one or more categories.

Chartis announced the awards as part of National Rural Health Day, which is Thursday, Nov. 16.

“These recognitions demonstrate Avera's ongoing commitment to rural health. It connects our work today to the efforts of our founding Sisters, who established some of the first hospitals in the Upper Midwest.,” said Rachael Sherard, Avera Senior Vice President of Rural Health. “Interconnected care often begins with a rural facility. They are vital in providing the right care at the right time with employees who are dedicated to this significant work.”

The Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX is used to evaluate rural facilities. In its 14th year, INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance.

“Wherever we go in rural America, we witness first-hand the commitment, determination and compassion with which rural hospitals serve their communities. Rural health care truly is mission-driven,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, Chartis Center for Rural Health.
