Avera Ready to Open Dawley Farm Health Center
Avera will soon open the new Avera Medical Group Family Health Center – Dawley Farm in eastern Sioux Falls, just off Veterans Parkway north of the 26th Street intersection.
The public is invited to a community open house Sunday, Dec. 18, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
“Avera’s Family Health Center concept brings together comprehensive and essential services for the entire family in a growing sector of our city,” said Ryan Vanden Bosch, Assistant Vice President for Primary Care at Avera.
The $34 million 86,000-square-foot building offers specialties and services that include:
- Family medicine
- Internal medicine
- Pediatrics
- Obstetrics-gynecology
- Maternal-fetal medicine
- Dermatology
- Orthopedic walk-in care
- Urgent care
- 24/7 Emergency Department
- Imaging including CT, X-ray and ultrasound
- Laboratory and Avera QuickLabs location
The Dawley Farm location is similar in design and services to the Avera Family Health Center on Marion Road that has served southwest Sioux Falls for six years. “We’ve found that people appreciate the convenience of having most of the health services their family needs, all under one roof and in their neighborhood. Now, residents of the east side will share in this advantage of greater access and convenience,” Vanden Bosch said.
The free-standing Emergency Department is the first of its kind in eastern Sioux Falls and Avera’s second in the city. “When an emergency happens, time is of the essence. A patient’s successful recovery may depend on getting the proper level of care at the right time,” said Jared Friedman, MD, Clinical Vice President of Avera’s Emergency Medicine Service Line.
“Avera now has four full-service emergency departments in Sioux Falls,” Friedman said: two free-standing neighborhood emergency departments at Dawley Farm and on Marion Road, plus those at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center and Avera Heart Hospital.
As other Avera McKennan emergency departments, this ED will be staffed 24/7 by residency-trained physicians and connected to telemedicine for additional support as needed.
Avera also has three urgent care locations in Sioux Falls for after-hours care – at Dawley Farm, Marion Road, and 69th and Western. Two orthopedic walk-in locations are available, one at Dawley Farm and one at the Avera Human Performance Center at the Avera on Louise Health Campus. Plus, Avera offers 24/7 Behavioral Health Urgent Care at the Avera Behavioral Health Hospital.
“All these locations add up to greater access for individuals and families to get the level of care they need – when they need it,” Vanden Bosch said.
The Avera Family Health Center – Dawley Farm has three stories, with shell space for future expansion.
Avera Medical Group has had a clinic at Dawley Farm Village since 2012. “With higher demand for services, we responded by expanding to meet these needs,” Vanden Bosch said.
In the near term, the Dawley Farm center will be staffed by 17 physicians and advanced practice providers, including those from the existing Dawley Farm clinic, those from other selected Avera locations, and new providers. The center has capacity for growth of additional providers as the need grows.
“The east side of Sioux Falls is growing, with a great deal of residential and commercial development planned for the future. We have taken this proactive step to ensure this area of the city has ready access to health care through our family health center model,” Vanden Bosch said. “Avera Family Health Center – Dawley Farm is here to serve everyone from expecting mothers, to families, to the elderly and workers injured on the job.”
Clinics and services will begin moving to the Dawley Farm center in early January.
