Visiting Hours & Policies
Most general care areas have visiting hours of 6 AM – 9 PM. For inquiries about specific area visiting hours, call 605-322-8000.
- We recommend no more than two visitors at a time.
- Minors and dependent adults must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
- We may restrict visitors, temporarily close buildings and adjust hours to protect the safety of patients and staff.

Laboratory
Right inside our facility, you have access to a wide range of laboratory services that contribute to accurate diagnoses of medical conditions. Expert specialists conduct safe and reliable lab testing, helping you and your provider get the results you need to start an effective and personalized treatment plan. Inpatient care patients may receive lab draws in their hospital room. If you’re visiting for an appointment, you may be directed to our on-campus labs.
Location: Ground floor of the hospital, 3rd floor of Plaza 1, and 2nd floor of Plaza 2
Avera QuickLabs
This location also offers Avera QuickLabs, which lets you quickly and confidentially order a variety of tests without a doctor’s order. These tests help you monitor ongoing risks — such as complete blood count, glucose, lipids or hemoglobin — but shouldn’t be a replacement for the personalized care of your primary care provider.

Radiology & Imaging
Experts conduct comfortable and quick imaging, so you receive accurate diagnosis which will determine the right treatment for your health. We offer innovative imaging technology, including MRI, DEXA scans, CT scans, X-rays and ultrasound, which are available for clinical staff to order for patients. If you’re staying in the hospital, staff will get you to the proper location for inpatient imaging when you need it, around-the-clock. If you have a scheduled visit, you’ll go to the outpatient imaging center in Plaza 2, or another location specified by your provider.

Patient Meals
Patients staying in the hospital will order fresh, chef-prepared meals based on their dietary needs. Additionally, the Women’s Center offers a café stocked with drinks and snacks, among other amenities.
Gift Shops & Floral
Visit the hospital gift and floral shop in person or shop items online to buy gifts, snacks, clothing, flowers, personal care items, Avera-branded items and more. To place orders over the phone or ask questions, call 605-322-7875.

Innerpath Store
This store carries products related to integrative medicine, including aromatherapy oils and nutritional and herbal supplements and specialty items for cancer patients. The Wig Salon is also located here, and provides natural, high-quality wigs to help cancer patients cope with the physical changes and emotions of hair loss. To ask questions, call 605-322-8470.

Arts in Healing
We welcome patients and families to engage in the Arts in Healing program to enjoy and relax with a welcome distraction while here. Original collections are on display in the Avera McKennan campus and the Prairie Center. Many pieces, including those by local and regional artists, reflect our home on the Northern Plains and Avera's healing ministry.
Indoor SculptureWalk
Visit Sioux Falls' only indoor SculptureWalk, an extension of the downtown walk — part of Avera's commitment to the arts in healing.
Digital Art Wall
The Prairie Center has a changing exhibit with 15 video monitors, displaying sharp, beautiful imagery to inspire a positive environment for patients, their families and visitors.
Music as Medicine
Avera hosts the South Dakota Symphony's Music as Medicine program, to bring classical music and musicians to our health care facilities.
Chapel & Meditation
Find a quiet place for prayer or meditation in the Avera McKennan Chapel off the main hospital lobby, or the Dr. Michael Rost Meditation Room on the ground floor of the Prairie Center.
Holiday Hours
The hospital and emergency department are open 24/7 – including holidays. On-campus clinics typically close for major holidays, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hospital visiting hours and amenities hours will vary.
