Levels of Care

Utilizing the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria, each patient is individually assessed to ensure a proper level of care. All aspects of treatment (i.e., physical, emotional, social, mental and spiritual) are carefully integrated to encourage and promote healing and recovery.

Among options are residential day treatment and intensive outpatient/day treatment, which include individual counseling, group therapy, family sessions, education and peer support. Length of stay is individualized, but generally about four weeks in length.

Specialized Services

Among services to help individuals in recovery and their families:

  • Medical detoxification: This is often the first step to recovery. Under expert medical supervision, patients are comfortably and safely withdrawn from alcohol or drugs.
  • Avera Addiction Family Program: This program is designed to educate family members and help them establish new communication skills and healthier relationships.
  • Relapse: A two-week program for those who are having difficulty maintaining sobriety or abstinence.
  • Aftercare: Upon discharge from treatment, the addicted person and his/her family continue recovery through an appropriate aftercare program.
