In residency, he cared for patients with kidney disease. This opportunity opened up interest in renal physiology, or the all-encompassing field of kidney function.
“Because there isn’t a large number of pediatric nephrologists, the choice was easy,” said Dr. Sanders. “I wanted to make a difference by pursuing this specialty.”
Expert Care in Pediatric Nephrology
Dr. Sanders, along with his team, are passionate about helping children. They see and treat a variety of health concerns, including:
- Elevated blood pressure/hypertension
- Acute kidney injury
- Blood or protein in the urine
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- Recurrent kidney stones in children
- Urinary accidents
- Congenital kidney anomalies
Some of the dialysis therapies prescribed to patients include chronic peritoneal dialysis, chronic hemodialysis, acute peritoneal dialysis, acute hemodialysis, and acute continuous renal replacement therapies.
Active Lifestyle
When he’s not at work, Dr. Sanders he enjoys spending time with his wife and family. They’re the proud, busy parents of 12 children, with 11 living. His wife is a nurse, giving him great insight and respect for how nurses interact and care for children.
Dr. Sanders also really likes watching baseball, especially the South Carolina Gamecocks and St. Louis Cardinals.
