About Me

Dr. Michael Knapp joined Avera Aberdeen Family Physicians in September 2007 after completing his Family Medicine Residency training at UW Health Family Medicine Clinic in Eau Claire, WI. He is a native of Sioux Falls, graduating from O’Gorman High School. He attended college at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. After college he returned to Sioux Falls and worked at McKennan Hospital for six years as a Social Worker. In 2000, he began his medical training at Des Moines University – Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. He does full spectrum family medicine. Dr. Knapp is board certified in family medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He is a certified medical consultant with the Creighton Model FertilityCare™ system (natural family planning https://www.avera.org/services/fertility/). He is currently licensed to practice in South Dakota. Dr. Knapp and his wife, Catherine, have two children, Noah and Rachel.

My provider is very good. I will note that he may not have had time to review my chart and look at my problem list. I was in for concerns of blood pressure and he seemed unaware that I was on medication that he prescribed for many years. I know providers are human. I think it is just a good reminder to review the chart. They see many patients in a day. Reading the chart and knowing the history is beneficial.
