Before pursuing a career in medicine, Michael Bidus, MD, came from a military family and was raised in multiple overseas duty stations. When he joined the military himself, his medical education in gynecology and obstetrics allowed him to serve women around the world.
His interest in women’s health progressed into cancer care. Today, you have access to Dr. Bidus’ wealth of gynecologic oncology expertise at Avera Medical Group Gynecologic Oncology in Sioux Falls, SD.
Expert Care in Gynecologic Oncology
Dr. Bidus is proud to work with a multidisciplinary team to care for women during a concerning time in their life.
“When they come into my office, cancer has been detected or there is a suspicion of cancer,” said Dr. Bidus. “They’re often frightened and don’t know what to expect. It gives me the chance to meet them and their families, to help reassure them that high quality, state-of-the art-care is available, that we will take great care of them, and they leave feeling more at peace.”
During these encounters, he explains the patient’s diagnoses, evaluation and treatment options. Personalized care could include surgery with possibly minimally invasive techniques, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal or immunotherapy, or clinical trials.
“The field of gynecologic cancer care is changing dramatically with new opportunities and treatment options on the horizon,” said Dr. Bidus. “These options offer the possibility of better cancer outcomes and quality of life.”
Active Lifestyle
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching hockey and studying theology. He is also an avid fisherman and likes to travel, often to Canada to pursue salmon.
