If you have an infection, count on Dayana Maita, MD at Avera Medical Group Infectious Disease Specialists in Sioux Falls, SD. A true detective of medicine, Dr. Maita explores infectious diseases, finds the root causes and after diagnosis, prescribes the most appropriate treatment. Dr. Maita became interested in medicine at a young age, having a strong interest in biology and microbiology.

Expert Care for Infections

Always curious and exploring the way infections work, Dr. Maita found a perfect fit in infectious diseases, including researching new trial-based antimicrobial drugs for drug-resistant infections. She focuses care based on the whole person and entire body—and specializes in treating general infections in adults as well as HIV/AIDS and common infections in transplant recipients.

“Be grateful and be patient,” is Dr. Maita’s advice to her patients. Having a warm, caring personality, she loves getting to know her patients and building relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds. Her goal is to treat patients while applying antibiotic stewardship techniques, infection prevention and promoting immunizations.

Active Lifestyle

In her free time, Dr. Maita spends time with her husband and children, dining out and enjoying good wine, doing yoga and pilates, and watching documentaries. She also loves traveling to new countries to experience new people, food and cultures. She is originally from Venezuela and speaks Spanish.
