Personal Interests and Background
An avid fitness enthusiast, Dr. Rasmussen relates to patients through his own personal experiences and injuries. On most days, the first thing he does after work is exercise, working on his own strength and fitness while testing rehabilitation protocols, specific mobility work or stretching exercises. He in turn uses this experience to benefit his patients.
His interest in physical medicine and rehabilitation came from his own path to recovery. While weightlifting in college, he suffered a lower back injury. He was told there was no surgery recommended and to take anti-inflammatory medication. A year later, still in pain, he met and was evaluated by a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at his medical school. After a thorough examination and exercise recommendations from this physician, Dr. Rasmussen subsequently recovered without medications or surgery. This experience led Dr. Rasmussen to pursue a career in physical medicine and pain management.
