If you need surgery, we’re prepared to give you the care you need. In addition to mastectomy, we offer lumpectomy and oncoplasty, as well as electron-based intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT). Surgical options include techniques to hide and minimize scarring. We work with colleagues in plastic and reconstructive surgery to help deliver a cosmetically pleasing result, based on your wishes.
The High Risk Breast Clinic offers advanced testing and treatment options for patients who have a family history of breast cancer, mutations in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. We also help patients who have experienced difficult breast exams in the past due to dense breasts or other issues.
Our genetic testing and counseling experts can help determine if you have higher risk for certain types of cancer based on your DNA and other risk factors. This approach helps you and your family members make informed decisions about prevention measures and screening options for early cancer detection.
In addition to your oncology and surgical team at this clinic, Avera has a larger, integrated team committed to you. We offer:
- Surgical care including advanced, minimally invasive and robotic techniques
- Radiation therapy
- Chemotherapy and biotherapy
- Genomic medicine (also known as precision oncology)
- Connection to clinical trials that may provide treatment options in addition to standard of care
