Finding Us: This children’s hospital is on the third and fourth floors of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center near 21st Street and Cliff Avenue in Sioux Falls. Due to on-campus construction and some road and parking lot closures, we recommend you allow extra time to get to your destination. For parking, it’s best to access the free ramps via 20th Street, and then take the skywalk into the main hospital and go up on the elevators. Valet service remains available at the main hospital entrance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. See the latest map and construction updates.

Avera Children’s Hospital is dedicated to meeting the unique health needs of our youngest and smallest patients, and includes our pediatric unit, nursery, pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Pediatricians and specialists here offer a wide range of services, including specialties in cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, neonatology, nephrology, neurology, orthopedics, and pulmonology and sleep medicine.

  • Specialists provide outreach visits at various locations in the area and via telemedicine consultations for eNICU and PICU virtual care options.
  • Also in Sioux Falls, children needing mental health hospital care can go to our child and adolescent units at the Avera Behavioral Health Hospital.

PICU Sedation Services

To help children feel more at ease, child-friendly sedation options like intranasal medication are used instead of IVs for many procedures. Avera Children's Hospital provides other calming services, like special goggles allowing patients to watch movies while having an MRI.

Family-Centered Care Environment

Colorful and child-friendly spaces are specially designed for the comfort of our tiniest patients and their visitors. Parents and siblings are welcome to visit 24 hours a day. • Ease fears by encouraging effective coping.
  • Distract and comfort children undergoing testing or surgery.
