When Ryan Sieg, MD, was younger, his whole life revolved around sports. His action-packed lifestyle occasionally found him in the local hospital with a broken arm or fractured ankle.
As he received care, he became fascinated with how the orthopedic doctors evaluated and treated their patients effectively with compassion.
Today, Dr. Sieg serves his community as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Avera Orthopedics in O’Neill, NE.
“The patient is the one who guides me,” said Dr. Sieg about his approach to care. To him, he isn’t treating a problem or an X-ray — he treats people so they can return to their passions and lifestyle.
Expert Care in Orthopedics
Dr. Sieg offers expert evaluation of any musculoskeletal issue from head to toe, and provides nonsurgical and surgical solutions to his patients. Typically, he cares for issues related to the shoulder, hip, knee, hand, wrist and elbow.
He is especially passionate about relieving pain and restoring strength and flexibility through surgery, including:
- Total joint replacement
- Arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee
- Endoscopic carpal tunnel releases
In addition, he enjoys helping athletes and active adults heal from sports injuries through sports medicine.
“I’m an action-oriented, visual type of person, and I like the hands-on pragmatic nature of orthopedics,” said Dr. Sieg.
Experience in Military, Teaching and Missions
After his residency, Dr. Sieg practiced for more than seven years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, mostly at Fort Hood, TX. There, he taught intern physicians rotating through the orthopedic field. In addition, he served as Clinic Chief of the Service at Fort Hood and at Fort Sill, OK.
Dr. Sieg deployed to combat zones in Afghanistan and Syria. He also served on medical mission trips to Senegal and Honduras.
Active Lifestyle
When he’s not at work, Dr. Sieg enjoys spending time with family and friends, barbecuing, exercising, golfing, boating and engaging in just about any outdoor activity.
