About Me

When she was a young girl, Catherine Schiltz, DO, dreamed of becoming a doctor. Visiting her own doctor wasn’t a scary experience, but a fascinating opportunity to learn the importance about caring for others.

“I knew since then that this was what I wanted to do,” she said.

In medical school, general surgery interested her, but it was the opportunity to combine surgery and the priceless experiences of pregnancy and delivery that inspired her to pursue obstetrics and gynecology.

Today, Dr. Schiltz serves as a physician and surgeon in obstetrics and gynecology at Avera Medical Group Family Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Expert Care in Obstetrics and Gynecology

As an OB/GYN, Dr. Schiltz cares for women’s health concerns — no matter their age. Some of her specialties include:

“I especially enjoy working through difficult and complex surgical cases,” said Dr. Schiltz, “I get to think critically and use my skills and expertise to help my patients achieve the best outcome for their case.”

Along with personalized pregnancy and delivery, her busy gynecologic practice includes the management of abnormal bleeding, infertility, endometriosis, fibroids and pelvic pain.

Active Lifestyle

When she’s not at work, Dr. Schiltz enjoys spending time with family; she has four active sons. They love to stay active doing outdoor activities. Dr. Schiltz also likes to travel and work out.

Dr. Schiltz was great. It was my first time seeing her and my first time going to Avera gynecology. She knew my medical history from memory which was impressive as it was my first appointment with her. It was nice not to rehash my cervical cancer, etc. 10/10 will recommend her to anyone and everyone.

It was my first time meeting Dr Schiltz and I was quite nervous about an upcoming surgery I will need. She was so reassuring and I felt like she understood my concerns and helped put me at ease. Also I felt as though she is extremely knowledgeable and I feel confident in her plan for my treatment.

Dr Schlitz is very likable and trustworthy, but she is only in the room for a few minutes- in and out. I always feel like I leave without all of my questions answered.

Dr. Schiltz is one of the best! She listens and explains in great detail all aspects of care. She takes the time to make sure you and your spouse are comfortable with the plan and makes you feel at ease.

Dr Shiltz and the resident took their time when talking to me. I appreciated that they listened, addressed my concerns, informed me of what treatments are available and asked if I had any questions. They didn't rush me and told my issues seriously.

Dr. Schiltz is the best OB/gyn I have had. She validates you. She explains the pros and cons of everything in regards to your care. She takes time to know your entire situation before suggesting treatment. I absolutely felt at ease with the choices she helped explain options to!
