RN Clinical Sponsor Requirements

The MED Aide RN Clinical Sponsor doing the 3-hour Skills Evaluation must:

Med Aide Exam Dates

Upon course registration, the RN Clinical Sponsor will be automatically provided a student username and password allowing the student to access the course. A separate exam code or password will be sent to the RN Clinical Sponsor to use to access the Unit Exams and Final Exam. The exam code is a secure code and must be entered only by the RN Clinical Sponsor or his/her designated proctor. The RN Clinical Sponsor is ultimately responsible for the security of the exam code. The secure exam code is not to be shared with the student at any time.

Once the secure exam code has been received, the exams will be available to test the student at anytime (24/7) convenient for the RN Clinical Sponsor. (As a reminder, all exams must be proctored or directly observed by the RN Clinical Sponsor or his/her designee.)

Train the Trainer

Register for Train the Trainer Classes

South Dakota requirements for a primary instructor of a nurse aide training program include that the licensed nurse shall have completed a course of instruction in teaching adults or shall have experience in teaching adults within the past five years. Avera Train the Trainer satisfies state requirements for having completed an adult instruction course. Once you complete the course, you will receive a certificate from Avera Education & Staffing Solutions. This course is also helpful for supplemental instructors or those wanting a refresher, though not required. This course containing general adult education principles may be helpful for instructors of Medication Administration Training Programs or those engaged with any other employee instruction.

To Register for the Online Dining Assistant Training Program, the student must:

  • Be working or volunteering in a South Dakota healthcare facility that has a 10-hour SD Department of Health approved dining assistant training program.

  • Have a facility RN available to conduct the 2-hour required clinical portion

The facility should have a main contact person to register students and maintain documentation and communication with Avera Education & Staffing Solutions.

Facility must indicate to AESS that they have an approved training program.
